Walker to Tour Linn County for MLK Holiday
Speeches to highlight justice reform efforts and encourage civic activism
Cedar Rapids, IA – Linn County Supervisor Stacey Walker will spend the upcoming holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., touring Linn County for several events honoring the legacy of the civil rights icon. The speaking tour will begin in Mt. Vernon, Iowa where he will give the keynote address for the first annual Connect, Absorb, Respond, and Empower (CARE) conference. He will then give the keynote address at the MLK celebration event held at Coe College, before closing out the evening as the keynote speaker for the 28th Annual Community Observance Celebration at St. Paul’s Church in Cedar Rapids.
“It is an honor to be given the opportunity to speak to the legacy of Dr. King,” said Supervisor Walker. “Dr. King stands as a titan in the pantheon of great visionary leaders. He was able to move the conscience of a nation; standing up for what he knew was right at a time when the majority of the country thought otherwise. Now more than ever, we must remember his commitment to progress and be encouraged, knowing that our current fight against injustice and inequity can be won.”
Supervisor Walker plans to highlight justice reform efforts here in Linn County and encourage citizens to get more involved in the causes and issues they care about, especially the causes that address systemic and institutional injustice.
