Stacey Walker to Host Jason Kander at Raygun
Deidre Dejear, candidate for Secretary State and other statewide and federal candidates expected.
Cedar Rapids, IA – Linn County Supervisor Stacey Walker will host his first fundraiser since announcing his intention to seek re-election to the Linn County Board of Supervisors by featuring rising star in Democratic politics, Jason Kander, former Secretary of State of Missouri and current president of Let America Vote.
“I’m thrilled to be joined by Jason Kander,” said Walker. “His voice and his vision is sorely needed in American politics. I’m honored to have his support.”
Walker won election to the Linn County Board in last year’s general election after capturing over 60% of the vote. He won his primary earlier that year in a 3-to-1 landslide. Since coming to office, he has fought for a living wage, committed Linn County to the Paris Climate Agreement, secured funding for small businesses affected by the flood of 2016 and extended collective bargaining contracts for county employees.
“It’s great to get back to Iowa to help progressive candidates like Stacey,” said Kander. “One of our big efforts has been encouraging passionate activists to run for office and be the change they wish to see in this country. Stacey has a great future ahead of him and I’m glad to be a part of his journey.”
A former Army Captain who served in Afghanistan, Kander became the first millennial in the country to be elected to statewide office in 2012. In 2016 he ran for U.S. Senate in Missouri in one of the most competitive races in the country and at over $75 million, the most expensive race in state history. Jason’s campaign was bolstered by his viral gun control ad that showed him assembling a rifle blindfolded while making the case for expanded background checks. Jason lost by one of the closest margins in the country, over-performing the presidential ticket by nearly 16 points.
Jason is a graduate of American University and Georgetown Law School. He lives in Kansas City with his wife, Diana, an entrepreneur, and their four-year-old son, True.
