Statement on Potential Large-Scale Flood Event
As we learn more about the potential threats of a large-scale flood event, I wanted to let you know that I’m doing my best to track the ongoing community efforts to keep Linn County residents safe.
This morning, I visited with experts convened by the National Academy of Sciences to talk specifically about flood mitigation and recovery efforts as well as future preparedness.
I have been in communication with former and current members of the Linn County Board of Supervisors on emergency response procedures.
I’ve learned that Linn County plans to designate its Risk Manager – Steve Estenson – as the Flood Incident Commander tomorrow during a special meeting. I’ve also learned that Linn County is activating flood response procedures in coordination with other local agencies.
I’m encouraged by the work of city and county government officials, non-profit professionals and community leaders during this time. Right now, it’s not about politics. It’s about working together as a community to keep each other safe.
