Walker Receives Second Labor Endorsement in Primary for Linn County Supervisor
Cedar Rapids, IA – On Thursday, the Plumbers, Fitters, Welders and HVAC Service Technicians Local 125 announced its vote to endorse Stacey Walker, Democratic candidate for Linn County Supervisor in District 2. Local 125 covers 25 eastern Iowa counties and has a regional office in Cedar Rapids.
“Stacey has the interest of working families at heart,” said Jerry Hobart, the organization’s business manager. “Through his experience on political campaigns and in the private sector, Stacey has heard many viewpoints on key labor issues. Even in divisive situations, he has remained committed to listening to what workers need and has fought for fair work policies. I’m confident that as a County Supervisor, Stacey would help make Linn County a safer and more prosperous place to work and live.”
This development is the second major labor endorsement for Walker’s campaign. In April, Walker received the endorsement of the Hawkeye Labor Council – the East Central Iowa affiliate of the AFL-CIO.
“Like the members of Local 125, all Linn County’s workers deserve policies that allow them and their families to lead healthy, productive lives,” Walker said. “I look forward to working with the Plumbers and Pipefitters of Local 125 as well as other labor organizations to make these policies a reality.”
To date, Walker has earned twenty endorsements from elected officials and key community leaders, including: the Hawkeye Labor Council AFL-CIO, Iowa House Minority Leader Mark Smith, State Senator Liz Mathis, Linn County Democratic Party Chair Bret Nilles and most recently State Representative Kirsten Running-Marquardt.
“It’s notable that now two major organized labor groups have voted to move forward with an endorsement in this primary contest,” said Allison Ordman, Walker’s campaign manager. “I think their choice speaks to Stacey’s proven record on supporting issues that affect workers and their belief that Stacey will be an effective leader on the Board.”
The Plumbers, Fitters, Welders and HVAC Service Techs Local 125 will run a robust door-knocking campaign to build support for Walker’s campaign as the primary date, June 7th, nears.
